Break Them Down

As the joke goes:
“How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.”

Maybe you have a really big target you’re aiming at. By breaking your progress down into smaller steps, you make it more achievable, and less likely to overwhelm you.

Tell Others

Telling other people makes you accountable. So tell the people you trust. Tell your friends and family, tell your co-workers or your networking group.

These people care about you and want to see you succeed! They’ll want to help by providing knowledge, a connection, or just by being there to help you through. But don’t forget to ask for their help when you need it.

Reflect Regularly

Reflecting on your goals allows you to measure your progress and review whether the steps you are taking will get you where you want to go.

It also allows you to check that they are actually what you want. You can change them at any time if you’re not going in the direction you want.

Make them Inspiring

There’s not much point having a goal that doesn’t INSPIRE you.

Try to word it in a way that excites you and makes you want to achieve it. For example, you could rewrite “Make $X this year” to something like “Change X amount of lives this year”.

Or you could include it as a step of a bigger intention that you have. Perhaps you want to make $X so that you can buy a new car or go on holiday.

Reward Yourself

Rewarding yourself is great for your Mental Health and your mental resilience.
When you achieve your goals, or make significant progress towards them, allow yourself a reward. This releases endorphins, which makes you feel great about yourself, and your progress.

Just make sure you reward yourself AFTER the fact. Otherwise it can quickly turn into procrastination.
